Stefan George Archive
The works and life of the poet Stefan George are the focus of the literary research and studies of the Stefan George Archive in Stuttgart, which is specialised in the maintainance of George's as well as of 50 related estates of the so-called George-Kreis. Alongside the editorial work on George's manuscripts, the archive is also concerned with the preservation, cataloguing and editing of papers, letters and other documents from the various estates. In that function the archive is the national and international centre of research not only on George and his 'Kreis', but also on European literary Symbolism and the Neoromantic Movements.
The archive's collection is successively extended by the acquisiton of documents associated with Stefan George's life and work. It is financed by the Stefan George Foundation and is situated in the Württemberg State Library, where it took premises in 1970.
