Manuscripts
The manuscript collection of the Württemberg State Library contains approx. 15,000 manuscripts, some of which have been in the possession of the library since the Secularization. These consist of approx. 3,000 medieval manuscripts and 12,000 modern manuscripts. They include approx. 180 bequests. The collection covers over one and a half millennia, from the 5th century – including the oldest possessions of the library, the Vetus Latina fragments – right down to the present day.
The library is charged with the task of acquiring autographs, manuscripts and bequests from authors of our century that have any connection with Württemberg.
