The regional bibliography working group, established in 1983 by a consortium of regional libraries, came into being at a time when several state bibliographies were preparing or planning to use electronic data processing. Since then, it has dedicated itself to the following task:

coordinating the state bibliographies, as far as possible, to simplify both processing and use.
promoting regional bibliographical work by means of regular exchange of information and experience.
enhancing cooperation, particularly in the field of IT applications.
raising awareness among a professional public of the importance of the bibliographical work.

The working group meets once a year at varying venues. All German federal states are represented in the group. Staff from the regional bibliographies are welcome, as are colleagues from neighbouring states.
