Manuscript

Definition

A term referring to books completed by hand before the invention of print.

The majority of preserved manuscripts were written on parchment, and only a few on papyrus. From the 14th Century (AD/CE) paper became the most important medium for print.
The manuscript forum "Manuscripta Mediaevalia" provides information on over 60,000 manuscripts in German-language countries and beyond.
