Main Reading Room
The Main Reading Room offers approx. 48,000 volumes that are freely accessible and arranged systematically. There are 190 workstations available with connections for laptops. For bibliographical searches, you can use a wireless connection (WLAN) to the Intranet.
Non-lending collection
While all branches of study are covered, the humanities have greater coverage than the scientific/technical fields. The collection is particularly extensive in the fields of theology, philosophy, history, geography, language and literature, economics, law and administration. Another central focus is on literature relating to Baden-Württemberg. Art and music are not represented in the Main Reading Room. Separate reading rooms with independent opening times have been set up for these subjects.
In addition to general and specialist reference works, such as encyclopaedias, lexicons and dictionaries, you will also find handbooks and textbooks, collections of historical sources, statistical publications, biographical outlines, complete works of important writers and philosophers, genealogical and heraldic reference works, collections of laws and rulings, literature relating to local history, learned journals, and much more.
